Uncle Doc:
A nickname for Five-Card Stud with a spit.
Undercut:
To finish a hand of Gin Rummy with a count lower than the knocker’s.
Underplay:
Temporarily retain a high card by playing one of lower rank.
Under the guns:
The player to the left of the dealer.
Undertrick:
Each trick below a bidder’s required contract in Bridge.
Unlimited Poker:
A term applied to any Poker game where players may bet as high as they want.
Unload:
To get rid of high-count cards in Rummy.
Unmatched:
Any leftover card in Rummy.
Up:
To raise a Poker bid, also, the higher of two pair, as example, a hand containing 9-9-5-5 would be termed nines up.
Upcard:
A card dealt face up in Stud Poker; also the top card of the discard pile in Rummy and Canasta.
Uruguay:
Short for Uruguayan Canasta.

A space in a Solitaire layout.
Valet:
French term for a jack in certain games.
Valle:
Term for value in Panguingue, the threes, fives, and sevens being known as valle cards.
Value:
The rank or denomination of a card.
Vigorish:
Percentage taken by a gambling casino.
Void:A blank suit, particularly in Bridge.
Vole:
Term for winning all five tricks in Ecarte.
Vorhand:
Forehand in Skat.
Vulnerable:
A team with one game toward rubber in Contract Bridge.
