Apples To Apples Game

Apples to Apples Game requires each player to have five or seven "red apple" cards; on each is a noun or noun phrase (such as "Madonna", "Gossip", "Arline Food", etc.). The judge doesn’t get to play a red card until he or she is not the judge anymore. Instead the judge (a chosen player) draws a "green apple" card on which is printed an adjective ("sensitive", "crazy", "nerdy", etc.).

How to Play This Apples to Apples Game:

1.) The players who is the judge draws a green card, then chooses which of the red cards fits best by comparison with the adjective.

2.) Players choose a red card from their hand that is best described by the noun on the green card. Placing these red cards face down on the table.

3.) The judge mixes the red cards. Then turns over the red cards and reads them aloud one at a time and then picks a red card. The player whos card was selected gets to keep the green card.

4.) To keep score, players keep the green cards they win, until the game is over.

5.) The judge collects all the red cards played during play and discards them.

6.) The roll of judge passes to the player on the left. The new judge does the same as the previous judge.

7.) Play continues until someone gets enough green cards to win.

In the Apples to Apples game the judge’s decision is subjective; some will think it’s humorous if Brittney Spears is played for crazy or insane, and might give that player the point. However, what is funny is based on the judges point of view, and the judge might not give a player a point for a card that is, for them, not amusing, or simply untrue. Cards that start with "My" apply to the judge: a card reading "My mind" would be based on the judge’s mind, not the mind of the person who played the card (who is anonymous).

The winner is decided in two ways by whether, the winner is the first player to get a designated number of green-apple cards; the more players, the lower the set total. However, many people play until they feel like stopping, in this case, the person with the most green-apple card wins.

Apples to Apples Game Variations:

Apple Turnovers: Start by dealing five green cards to each player. The judge turns over a red card from the top of the stack. Players choose the green card from their hand that they think best describes the word on the red card. The judge then selects the green card he/she thinks is best, and gives that red card to the person who played the selected green card.

Quick Pick for Four: This Apples to Apples game variation is played with a group of four, players may play one or two red cards from their hands. Players attempting to play two cards must place them on the table, one card at a time. Only the first four red cards placed on the table will be judged.

Crab Apples: Choose and judge red cards that are the least like, or the opposite of the word on the green card. For example, you might choose "Charging Rhinos" when the green card "Dainty" is played.

Big Apples: For this Apples to Apples game two or more players boasting that the judge will pick their card can agree to each wager one of their green cards. If the judge selects one of their red cards, that player wins the green card and all the wagered green cards. If the judge does not pick one of their red cards, the wagered cards are forfeited to the bottom of the card stack.

Apple Potpourri: Each apples to apples game; players selects a red card from his or her hand before the judge turns over the green card. After the red cards are played, the judge turns over a green card. As usual, the judge then selects the winning red card!
